Today the world watched as Donald J. Trump was sworn into office at the presidential inauguration ceremony, and yet just as many eyes were on First Daughter, Ivanka Trump, and the American designer she elected to wear. Trump chose an ivory Oscar de la Renta pantsuit for the monumental occasion, though it marked her third move in looks from the house since arriving in Washington, D.C., yesterday. Trump stepped out in an Oscar de la Renta Kelly green coat and matching dress for the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery Thursday, followed by a white cap-sleeve gown with a dramatic black ribbon sash at the back (and punctuated with black and white diamond earrings from de Grisogono) for a candlelight pre-inauguration dinner hours later. The 35-year-old businesswoman announced last week that she will be stepping down from her post at the Trump Organization, as well as her eponymous apparel and accessories label, though her wardrobe choices over the past 24 hours suggest her dedication to fashion will remain.

Oscar de la Renta has a storied history as a bipartisan brand, having dressed former First Ladies from both sides of the aisle, including Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Nancy Reagan. While her stepmother Melania Trump opted for a powder-blue look from Ralph Lauren Collection, which recalled the elegance of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Ivanka Trump’s latest ensemble took a step in a more modern direction. An asymmetric cashgora wool jacket had a slightly sculptural line, while coordinating trousers with a simple pleat continued the outfit’s silhouette. She took a restrained approach to accessories, punctuating the look with a single American flag pin.

But it was at the inaugural ball on Friday evening that Trump changed up the sartorial pace in another beloved American designer: Carolina Herrera. Trump’s champagne-colored dress came covered in sparkling crystal embellishment and boasted a full skirt, which added up to a fairy tale princess fashion moment, even in Washington D.C.
