The trailer of Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor’s Bollywood debut film, Dhadak, is receiving cruel social media grilling for failing to match up to Sairat, the hit Marathi film on which Dhadak is based. As is often the case with regional-to-Hindi remakes, fans are trolling the film for killing the vibe of the original and diluting its underlying politics. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, Sairat told the story of a young couple in love who elope to Hyderabad from rural Maharashtra to seek a new life.
In Dhadak, the setting of the story has been shifted to Rajasthan and the dialogues have been adapted to the regional Rajasthani argot. Moreover, while the lovers in Sairat were portrayed as victims of caste violence, the core conflict faced by Ishaan and Janhvi in Dhadak seem to revolve around class and economic status.
That’s not all. Fans are also accusing producer Karan Johar of nepotism by launching a fresh batch of star kids under his banner.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak is scheduled to release on July 20. Janhvi Kapoor is the daughter of film producer Boney Kapoor and late actress Sridevi. Ishaan Khatter is the half-brother of Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor. While Dhadak marks Janhvi’s first brush with the big screen, Ishaan has already made his acting debut in Majid Majidi’s Mumbai-set international film, Beyond The Clouds.
