A Chinese word that literally translates to, "Indulgence in Beauty". It's basically China's BL or yaoi. But unlike yaoi, Danmei isn't explicit instead being focused more on story, theme, and character. With the main characters sharing a relationship that's the most idealized version of romance that can be possible, thus the genre sharing a huge level of popularity among the female audience.
Enough so that the most popular genre on Jinjiang Literature City, a influential web novel site targeted towards women in China, is Danmei.

"We need to attract the female audience in somehow." Said a random producer.
"We'll just adapt a danmei novel then". Replied the co-worker.

"danmei" is a Chinese word, used to describe a type (more like a genre) of fictional novel. Usually, the contents of danmei novels are high-rated and concentrated on describing the sexual relationship between two males (the similar meaning could be found in Japanese word "yaoi").
Danmei writters are mostly fangirls. Danmei is part of the Chinese literature culture in modern world, according to the fact that danmei novels are widely published and some writters of the genre become really famous among the readers.
