Marshall Acton Oxblood Limited Edition speaker boasts classic vinyl design

Marshall has launched a new limited edition speaker, the Acton model in Oxblood. With this offering — of which only 300 units will be sold — the Acton home speaker is shrouded in a vinyl outer casing that's dark oxblood in color; golden accents and control knobs complement the vinyl, making for an overall design that, says Marshall, would be 'at home in a dark, smoky tavern" or next to a Chesterfield sofa.

The Acton Special Edition Oxblood speaker measures 265 x 160 x 150mm, making it decent-sized but in no way too big for portability. You could, for example, fit it onto a bookshelf or a side stand. In addition to connecting a device via a 3.5mm cable, the Acton also features Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity.

Features include a single 4-inch woofer, a pair of 3/4-inch dome tweeters, a pair of 8 watt amps, and a single 25 watt amp. Crossover frequency sits at 4200Hz and the frequency range is ample at 50 to 20,000Hz. Finally, the speaker weighs 3 kilograms.

As far as design goes, the speaker features the Marshall script in gold across the speaker grille, as well as a trio of analog knobs for fine-tuning the audio. The style aims to be classy, so-called retro-chic if you'll forgive the expression. In exchange for what will probably be a topic of conversation in your entertainment room, you're going to pay substantially compared to similarly-spec'd Bluetooth speakers: $249 USD. Alternatively, the Acton speaker is also offered in Cream and Black as standard colors for the same price.
