Sergio Aguero is arguably the greatest forward to ever pull on a Manchester City shirt.

Not only has the Argentine forward established himself as a legend as the Etihad, but he is probably English football's best striker of the past decade.

However, there is one stat which curiously doesn't back up that claim.

Aguero has scored 325 goals in his club career, but not one of them has come away at Anfield.

Perhaps that is why it is no surprise to hear City have never won away against Liverpool during his spell at his club. In fact, the last Blues striker to score a winner away at Anfield was Nicolas Anelka back in 2003.

Aguero has played nine matches in all competitions at Anfield in his career (seven with City, two with Atletico Madrid), failing to score in any of those games, attempting just 11 shots with just three of those ending up on target.

That is why his role this weekend will be crucial to City ending their Anfield hoodoo and cementing their status as the team to beat in the Premier League.

Liverpool are unbeaten in 17 home matches against City in all competitions, and Pep Guardiola has already seen his side lose three matches against the Anfield club this calendar year.

If it was ever a time for the Argentine to produce another moment of brilliance, then this Sunday would pretty much be perfect.

Aguero has added incentive to silence his doubters, too.

The 30-year-old has scored 148 Premier League goals – only Thierry Henry (175 for Arsenal) has scored more in the competition for a single club.

If the lively forward can manage to end his Anfield goal-drought and bag a brace on Sunday afternoon then he will become the ninth player to reach 150 goals in the Premier League.

For Aguero, another entry in the history books awaits.
