Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen are going their separate ways after 13 years of marriage.

“The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we spent together and only wish the best for Tom always,” Bündchen wrote in a statement on Instagram.

Multiple outlets had reported that the football player and supermodel were set to file for divorce today, and the news comes after weeks of rumors about their marital issues. “She was upset about it for a long time and it’s still difficult, but she feels like she needs to move on,” a source told People in early October. “She doesn’t believe that her marriage can be repaired.”

Although they have not publicly stated the reason for the divorce, recently, Tom Brady decided to un-retire from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40 days after first announcing that he was stepping off the field. “These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” he said at the time. “That time will come. But it’s not now.” In an interview with Elle last month, Bundchen had noted her “concerns” about Brady returning to football. “This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” she said.

The couple filed their documents in Glades County, Florida, deeming the marriage “irretrievably broken.” Other details of the divorce contained in the documents remain sealed.

“We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together,” Brady said in a statement today. “We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration. Doing so is, of course, painful and difficult, like it is for many people who go through the same thing every day around the world. However we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written.”

The two first began dating in 2006, and married in February 2009 at a private ceremony in Santa Monica, California. The football player and supermodel have two children together: Benjamin, 12, and Vivian Lake, 9. They also share Jack, 15, from a previous relationship of Brady's.

According to multiple sources, the pair have agreed to share joint custody. “We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way,” Brady wrote. “We will continue to work together as parents to ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.”
