Best Time to Visit Pulau Redang

Pulau Redang - Trip to Pulau Redang

You can snorkel around the Pulau Redang to witness the island’s fascinating marine life, and there are plenty of chances to see turtles, which is what the Pulau Redang is renowned for.

If you’re having a trip to Pulau Redang during the non-monsoon period, you can snorkel anytime you want. The best time to explore the underwater world is from April until August. Around that period, the visibility and the water quality will not be affected by the waves or currents.

How to Get to Pulau Redang

Located on the East Coast of Malaysia, Pulau Redang is not that hard to get to from the cities like Kuala Lumpur, there are plenty of ways for you to get there, you can take off with a plane or simply take a bus route, and catch a speedboat to get there. Here's a simplified guide on getting to Pulau Redang:

First, you have to get yourself to Kuala Terengganu, to get there you can take off with a plane (1 hour trip), take a self-drive with your car or rented car (6 hour trip), or catch a bus route (7 hour trip).

After you get a touchdown on the town, the next thing to do is to head yourself to Merang Jetty. Located approximately 30km from the Sultan Mahmud Airport, you can reserve a boat for your direct 40 minutes trip to the Pulau Redang from the Merang Jetty.

Things to Do in Pulau Redang

To help you spend your time with the most exciting and thrilling activities in Pulau Redang, here is some activity list for you to do on the island!

1. Explore The Underwater by Scuba Diving

Due to the contention about Pulau Redang being the best Scuba Diving spot, then first we have to strongly suggest this activity. Pulau Redang has over 20 dive spots with many kinds of depths and difficulty levels, so there is something for everyone. For the popular diving spots, you can search for Tanjung Tokong, Tanjong Lang, and Terumbu Kili. If you are keen enough to ask around, you can find and explore two large abandoned shipwrecks from the World War era.

Pulau Redang’s best diving months are between March and October when there is no monsoon rain that causes strong wind or current.

2. Fun Beach Activities

When you are on a beach, it’s impossible for you to get bored. There are too many things to do and see at the beach; swim around, kayak, do a volley ball match, paddleboarding or bodyboarding, play frisbee, and so many other things depend on your creativity.

You can paddle yourself to the mangrove forest around Alor Raja near Teluk Dalam Besar if kayaking intrigues you enough. Mangroves are one of the most biodiverse coastal environments in the world, and they are a home for a wide range of floras and faunas.

Though we said that there’s so many things to do on the beach, there are some activities that are prohibited due to coral reefs and aquatic life protection by the marine park. Such as jet skiing, water skiing, boat racing, and fishing. So please beware!

3. Visiting Redang Marine Park Center

Marine Park Center visitors can choose from a variety of activities while in there. The most popular activities are diving and snorkeling, but there is so much more to explore.

The exhibition center is an excellent experience for many people to learn and educate themselves about marine life and conservation efforts. There is also an exhibition of a turtle shrine where you can see the park’s hatchery filled with cute baby turtles.

The Marine Park center provides basic facilities for the visitors. There is no guest house or hotel here. Instead, you will find some camping grounds that serve as educational venues. There are restrooms on the site, and you will find a small mosque for you to pray.

And if you’re the kind who likes to relax on the beach or have a quiet and peaceful picnic, you can do that too. You will find some picnic tables here as well as small shops where you can buy yourself a set of meals.

4. Sighting the Sunrise, Sunset, and the Stars

Sunset - Trip to Pulau Redang

It’s a sacrifice for some of you, but if you wake up before dawn and head to the beach, you’ll be mesmerized by the sunrise in Pulau Redang. A vividly beautiful moment when you see the light over the horizon. There will be a few people on the beach in the early morning so you can get yourself an intimate moment.

But if you failed to catch the sunrise, no worries. Wait for the evening and sit by to witness the magnificent sunset. The view is different from the sunrise, yet equally captivating. You can just sit and sight, or do a beach stroll to walk by the sunset.

And to continue the night, you’ll find how bright the stars are. You can gaze at them as long as you want. To stargaze at the night on a beach is a very rare moment for most of us. Make sure you capture those moments on your cameras!

5. Nightlife

While Pulau Redang is not a necessary party destination, Long Beach has the best ambience of all. The bars and restaurants are open until late at night, and of course you will find some good alcohol there to accompany the night.

On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, some bars will have live music performed by musicians. This is an exciting place to chill and hang out, sing along with others. Many resorts have karaoke lounges, pool tables, and board games provided for you to have fun with your family and friends.
