A Chinese woman was bitten by a “dead” snake she’d been marinating in sorghum wine for three months.

The woman reportedly opened the jar containing the pit viper to stir and then pour herself a shot of the potent brew she believed helps with her rheumatism.

But the venomous critter sprung out of the bottle and locked its teeth on her hand.

Family members who heard her screams of terror rushed to the scene and battered the snake to death.

“Before the shejiu (snake wine) could have any effect on me, I was sent to the hospital for a snake bite,” she told RocketNews24.

Given medicine to counteract the venom, the woman was allowed to return home.

Experts speaking to Chinese website Dbtw claimed that snakes could enter a condition similar to hibernation when kept in non-airtight containers with enough oxygen.
