Kota Kinabalu: A wedding reception planned for almost a year had to proceed without the Sabahan bride after she was hospitalised a day before the event in the peninsula, forcing the bridegroom to sit on the "bersanding" dais alone in tears.

A TikTok clip shared by the bride, Nor Syafiqah Rozita Rody, shows her husband, Iqbal Ishak, at the reception alone, dabbing at his teary eyes with a tissue, a sad scene that touched many netizens' hearts, according to social news site SAYS.

The reception was postponed from December last year when Iqbal, a policeman, had to be on duty.

It was rescheduled to Sept 29 of this year to mark their first wedding anniversary, with all the things for the event already in place.

But the day before the big day, the pregnant Syafiqah had to be warded after she developed severe allergies and the doctor advised against her release for the wedding reception.

The couple decided that it would be best to just proceed with the reception as Syafiqah's family had already flown from Sabah to Kuala Lumpur for the ceremony.

"I tried to control my emotions, but ended up crying when I walked down the aisle and stood on the dais," SAYS reported Iqbal as saying.

However, when the groom was able to make a video call to his wife from the dais, he said his heart was slightly healed.
