Primary Succession After the Eruption
After Mount Pinatubo had erupted, much of the wildlife had been wiped out inside of the crater, which was covered with ash and lava flows that hardened into rock. Although, the organisms found around the volcano held up well. Inside the crater, we see a case of primary succession. Around the volcano, we see secondary succession.
The picture to the right shows the crater of Pinatubo today. The crater had filled with water from constant rainfall, creating what is known as Lake Pinatubo. Around the water, there is surrounding vegetation such as ferns and shrubs, while there are no visible trees.
This is a sign of primary succession leading to a climax community. Although, there is no climax community quite yet, there are obvious signs of moss growth on the nearby rocks and shrubs and ferns can be seen on the right, near the water. With the lack of activity in Pinatubo and the vast amount of water, we can assume that there will be a climax community following the climax community around the volcano.

Secondary Succession After the Eruption
On the left is another picture. This is an aerial photograph of Mt. Pinatubo, showing the surrounding vegetation. Being a secondary succession, much more growth is seen outside of the volcano rather than inside, shown by the more dull colors in the crater.
In the photograph, some trees and bushes can be spotted, along with moss, ferns, shrubs, and grasses. Although, there is no climax community yet as there are yet to be much larger trees to grow into the area. With the lack of activity in Pinatubo, we can assume that eventually, there will be a climax community.
