The role: Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs, South East Asia
As the Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs based in Singapore, you will be responsible for Google's public policy leadership across the ASEAN region, and will work to advocate Google's public policy positions, to promote a free and open Internet, and to advance the goals and values of the company in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Key issues will include privacy and data protection, content regulation, intellectual property (including copyright, patent, and trademark), cybercrime, communications and media policy, and the regulation of Internet networks and technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Google before policymakers in national governments, legislatures, and regulatory bodies across the ASEAN region.
- Work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other allies to promote and build support for Google's policy positions.
- Write policy papers, position statements, formal communications, blog posts.
- Communicate policy positions to key constituencies regionally within South East Asia and worldwide, including: Google users; Google partners and customers; National government officials and agencies; Policy advocates and the legal community; Journalists, experts, and opinion leaders; Industry organisations.
- In general, advance Google's mission, defend its values, and create new opportunities to make the world a better place.
Requirements:
- Excellent academic credentials, such as a law degree, or equivalent experience. Google is also willing to consider outstanding public policy professionals who are not lawyers.
- Extensive experience working with or in the various branches, agencies, and institutions of the national government or parliament in at least two South East Asian countries.
- First-rate personal, political, analytical, communications and government relations skills.
- Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development across the ASEAN region.
- Familiarity with internet technologies and related policy environments.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and ability to collaborate with energy, motivation, determination, and a passion for Google and the Internet.
- A commitment to professionalism and collegiality is required.
