The Global Content team localizes Google’s products, marketing materials and help content into all the languages Google is offered. We support Google’s extreme pace of innovation and feature launches, working across multiple internal departments around the world. This means that Global Content team members need to be proactive, motivated, organized, responsible – and able to work well in a fast-paced, multi-cultural and team-oriented environment.
The role: Community Manager, JAPAC
As a Global Content Community Manager, you will be responsible for recruiting, coordinating and managing the operation of a community dedicated to the globalization of Google content. You will serve as the day-to-day liaison between the Google Localization Team and external parties, ensuring that our members have access to necessary resources, and coordinating meetings and virtual events with translators. The success of our globalization initiatives depends on your contribution in engaging the community and encouraging knowledge-sharing amongst members. You are Google's eyes and ears in the community and will provide regular data-driven analyses on the health of the community.
Responsibilities:
- Work as an integral part of the Global Content team to provide support to the community of freelance translators and internal stakeholders.
- Work to establish and maintain Google's relationship with the translators while encouraging them to build relationships amongst themselves.
- Work with regional teams, legal stakeholders, and the vendor(s) to ensure Google and the community members adhere to relevant policies. Trouble-shoot or escalate technical and project-related issues as needed.
- Coordinate and monitor an incentive program to encourage participation in the community, and to reward quality translations and posts. This includes, but is not limited to: monitoring community member participation, satisfaction measures, and key project performance metrics.
- Serve as the translator’s connection to Google and its products. As a result, the community manager is responsible for making sure relevant internal information is disseminated to the translators including announcements about tools, product updates, policy changes, style guide changes, training materials etc.
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree preferred with a strong academic record.
- At least 5 years work experience in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication.
- In-depth knowledge of online communities, forums, and social networking environments.
- Experience with writing HTML, SDL WorldServer or other online applications is a plus.
- Ability to balance multiple concurrent projects and work in a dynamic environment.
