Singapore is a greenery island surrounded by the sea. Although it is a small island, it is populated with people from all over t he world; people that are from different race and ethnic backgrounds. The word "Google" is decorated with different colours signifies the multi racial society that we are living in. with the Octopus in the middle of the word "Google", it represents accessibility around Singapore. The suckers on the Octopus’ tentacles represent our people. It symbolizes a connection between Singaporeans that we are closely knitted together despite of our cultural differences.

Singapore is also known as "Lion City" in Malay. That is why I drew the Merlion to represent Singapore. The two other things that Singapore is famous for are her national flower, "Vanda Miss Joaquim" and Changi Airport's Control Tower. The green and flowery background portrays Singapore as a beautiful garden city and the four children symbolize racial harmony in Singapore.

Singapore's Evolution

Singapore's Evolution

The letter "G" represents that Singapore is a beautiful Garden City while the bottom of the G shows the kampong house and the clear waterfall. At the bottom which the water lay, is the Dragon's Teeth Gate. The letter O, which is the first store, shows the Japanese invasion in Singapore and the need for rice. There is blood on the "ground" and a person hanging below, dead. The second O shows that Singapore has gained independence and people cheering as the flag are hammered into the ground. Inside the O show the first HDB flat built. The letter G, the smaller one, says that girls can go to school now. The letter L shows that technology has improved as water slides were invented to swirls. The letter E says that laptops and high-quality games were invented.

The Merlion, Singapore

Although I am a foreigner, I treat Singapore as my second home. Singapore is really a great place for education and I hope to stay in Singapore as long as possible. My drawing shows a Merlion spurting some water from its mouth which forms the word "google". Wonders of Singapore

Wonders of Singapore

My Google design is made up of icons such as Dragon dance which captures the local Asian culture and heritage, local favourite durian, national flower, a snake from the Singapore Zoo, Changi Airport Control Tower and the effervescence Merlion. Dragon dance is a traditional sport that is rich in culture and it is a sport that trains the mind and the body. Widely known and revered in Singapore as the "king of fruits", the durian is distinctive for its large size, unique colour and formidable thorn-covered husks. Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as the Singapore's national flower in 1981. Singapore has the unique distinction of being the only nation to have hybrid as its national flower. Set in a rainforest environment, Singapore Zoo's world famous "Open Concept" offers the opportunity to experience and be inspired by the wonders of nature. Singapore Changi Airport since its opening in 1981 has made its mark in the aviation industry as a benchmark for service excellence, winning over 280 awards including Best Airport awards. The Merlion has a deep significance as an icon. It captures and fuses the legend of how Sang Nila Utama named this country Singapura after spotting a lion together with the island's roots of being a fishing village.

Comm (Unity)

Comm (Unity)

My doodle is "Our Singapore" by being "Singapore" itself. It is a unity of all aspects of Singapore; exotic city, racial harmony, advancement, productivity, together as a community. The waters represent our history and identity as a port city; skyline and MRT our advancement; the Merlion and Singapore Flyer, our national symbols, moon, stars and SIA our pride. The "G" represents our foremost position, food and the also has our varying races riding our transport together. Some Singaporean humour is present, with the Merlion and durian. Ah Mark Chicken Rice Stall

Ah Mark Chicken Rice Stall

You know what they say about Singaporeans. We live to eat! Come rain, shine, or cockroaches, we always hit the most delicious food in town and it's always found in the hawker stalls. And that's why I've decided to portray a hawker stall in my artwork. Think how terrible and depressing life would be without your favorite chicken rice or steaming bowl of laksa! Think of a world without melt-in-your-mouth ice kacang or luscious, creamy durian! And who could forget that kind of friendly old man who always puts in his heart to cook the most scrumptious food? Let's face it. Our lives.. would suck without hawker stalls.

Colours of Singapore

I am emphasing on the festivities celebrated in Singapore. It's unique as there are a lot festivities celebrated here. Each festival has its own uniqueness and beauty. A specific colour represents a race. For instance, red represents Chinese where else green represents Malay. However, when it is altogether and portrays a picture, iit turns out to be elegant, beautiful and colourful than a rainbow. As Singapore is the best country to explore one's unique culture and tradition.

I drew this design to emphasis both our roots and our future. The arrow at "G" signifies going ever forward. At the bottom of "G" is the tail of a Merlion, an icon of Singapore. The first "O" has a blooming flower, showing the beauty of our Garden City. The second "O" represents the Singapore River surrounding a star which symbolises Singapore. Singapore: Blooming with Pride

I have chosen Singapore's national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim to be the main theme of my design. Just like how people are attracted to the grace and vibrant colours of this unique hybrid. Singapore is also gaining recognition worldwide as a country full of potential and possibilities which i am very proud of. The main colour used in this doodle, violet. Symbolises purpose and spirit which draws a parallel to the competitive drive and the clear directions that Singapore has set for itself. Uniquely Singapore

Uniquely Singapore

In my doodle, I used the letters of "Google" to form objects unique to Singapore. They include the Formula One, "No smoking" sign, durian, Merlion, control tower and thee Vanda miss Joaquim. These objects signify unique characteristics of Singapore, like Singapore being a "fine" city and the history of Singapore where the Merlion is half-fish, half-lion, representative of the fishing village and lion city history. As such, this is "Our Singapore" because you cannot find such things elsewhere.

The Garden City - Singapore

The Garden City - Singapore

As Singapore is well-known as "garden city". The using of green branches and flowers are to represent the garden city. On the other hand, Vanda Miss Joaquim, Singapore's national flower. It is the best to represent Singapore. It shows uniqueness. The small buildings are to represent Singapore, the City, the garden city. Singapore flag is the best the represent Singapore too. The design of the "google" is to create a beautiful feeling, to show everyone that Singapore is a beautiful country.

Home. Hearts. Harmony!

Home. Hearts. Harmony!

Merlion, our national icon.. Changi Airport, our world class airport.. Vanda Miss Joaquim, our national flower.. These are the symbols that are unique to Singapore. However, what matters most to me about our nation is the harmony we enjoy amongst the different races. The two "O"s in Google are interlocked, forming a heart shape, with our four main races hand in hand, symbolising racial harmony where everyone works together with one heart, one mind for a common destiny. The green "e" with a star symbolises our clean and "evergreen" city, constantly striving for excellence in everything we do.

Makan Paradise

Makan Paradise

Singapore has been long known as Makan (Food) Paradise as there are a lot of types of food that are available in Singapore. This doodle reflects "Our Singapore" as a Makan Paradise. Merlion, replacing the small letter "g" from google, serves as the symbol of Singapore. Surrounding the Merlion are drawings of traditional food of different races. For example, the fishball noodle, eggtart, and small "bao" are traditional food for the Chinese. Roti Prata and banana leaf represents the Indian while the Malays Nasi Lemak and curry puff. Hence, not only in Singapore as Makan Paradise is emphasized by this design but also Singapore as a multicultural society.

Effervescent Singapore

Effervescent Singapore

My design portrays the pride of Singaporeans: Singapore being one of the most vibrant and developed cities in the world. The symbol attempt to remind Singaporeans of how far Singapore has gone from a small island town to a world-class city, with a metropolis culture and several tourist attractions. Being young and dynamic, Singapore is constantly reinventing its image to suit the needs of its people, as well as developing a sense of belonging that is shared by everyone. Walking on the street of Singapore, anyone can observe that Singapore is indeed an effervescent city, a "Little Red Dot" bustling with life and activities.

Iconic Singapore

Iconic Singapore

My inspiration derived from the most obvious identities of Singapore. The Merlion - an iconic signature of Singapore. The "g" from Google was drawn into a Merlion. On top of that, I applied another iconic branding in Singapore on the body of Merlion, pattern derived from the uniform of Singapore Airlines (SIA). The waves have the colors of the Singapore Flag, with a sneak peek of the crescent and stars. Singapore is an icon. I'm proud of, and all Singaporeans should feel the same as I do.

Tradition and Modern

Tradition and Modern

The architecture of Singapore displays a range of influences and styles from different places and periods. I pick out some prominent buildings to represent the growth of a young nation. The traditional shophouses represents the colonial period, while the high-rise buildings and the Esplanade represent the modern and cosmopolitan Singapore. In Chinese culture, the Benign Dragon Symbolizes prosperity. In my design, the colorful dragon represents the vibrant economy and the rich heritage.

Our Symbolic Singapore

Our Symbolic Singapore

Once, I did a patriotic doodle. For a contest organized by Google. Through rendering the Singapore flag with stylized Vanda Miss Joaquim. I seek to express that my country is not dim. Rather, we're a cosmopolitan, vibrant and lively society. Distinguished by peace, progress and equality. Racially and religiously intertwined are we. A unified spirit, we are strong and free. So, this is our Singapore. When you arrive at our shore. Once, I did a patriotic doodle. Will you let me win, please, Google? =D

On the surface level, the Google letters depict the various panoramic places of interests in Singapore. Several of the iconic tourist attractions featured by my illustration encompasses the Merlion, the Singapore Flyer, the Jurong Bird Park, the Esplanade and the Changi Airport. In a more abstract manner, several distinctive values of Singaporeans such as education, punctuality, racial harmony and total defence are also shown respectively by the depiction of the graduation cap, the MRT, the people holding hands together and the 5 jets parading in the air. Thus, I feel that my doodle has expressed the theme of “Our Singapore” effectively.
