The role: Software Engineer

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how millions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our ambitions reach far beyond just Search. Our products need to handle information at the the scale of the web. We're looking for ideas from every area of computer science, including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you work on a small team and can switch teams and projects as our fast-paced business grows and evolves. We need our engineers to be versatile and passionate to tackle new problems as we continue to push technology forward.

As a key member of a small and versatile team, you design, test, deploy and maintain software solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop graphics software for high-volume products (Chrome and Android) to drive the future of graphics capabilities for Google Chrome, Mobile, and the Web.
  • Build automated systems for quality and performance testing
  • Specialist domains: Graphics, Typography, OpenGL, DirectX development with client application development for Windows/Mac (Chrome, Toolbar, etc.), embedded systems and mobile apps (Android), and developer tools (IDEs, large-scale build systems, compilers).
  • Help drive the printing platform using Postscript and/or PDF

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
  • C++/C programming skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Strong programming abilities in C++ as well as familiarity with graphics APIs such as OpenGL or Direct3D, and higher-level languages such as C#, Java, Lua or Python.
  • Significant development experience in C++.
  • Strong foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design.
  • Experience with graphics, Chrome and/or WebKit.
  • Strong low-level programming skills and a thorough understanding of hardware architectures.
